Magellan Healthcare to serve as care navigator for mental health and wellness

Jul. 17, 2020

Mental health is a top concern across the country, with 1 in 5 adults in the United States experiencing a mental illness.1 Conditions such as depression, anxiety, and addiction affect overall well-being, personal and professional relationships, and workplace productivity.

To improve access to mental health and wellness services, Kaiser Permanente Washington has a new relationship with Magellan Healthcare, Inc. effective July 1, 2020. It’s an important step forward in delivering this essential care to our members in a responsible, compassionate, and timely way.

As a care navigator, Magellan will:

  • Match members who’ve been authorized to see an external network provider to one who best meets their needs
  • Confirm providers’ availability
  • Reach out to members and providers to set up the first appointment
  • Share member-specific information with the provider to pave the path toward the first visit

Magellan will also help to recruit new care professionals to our external network, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and master’s-level therapists.
