Downtown Seattle Medical Center closure leverages capabilities of nearby facilities

Apr. 13, 2021

Kaiser Permanente Washington is bringing together the care provided in the downtown Seattle core in a way that more efficiently leverages the convenience, care, and services at each of our locations. As a result, we have decided not to renew the lease for our Downtown Seattle Medical Center in Seattle’s City Centre Building.

  • We expect to wind down services in early July and relocate clinicians and staff to other Kaiser Permanente Washington medical facilities in the area.
  • Letters will be mailed in mid-April from Downtown clinicians to their paneled patients letting them know about the closure and where they’ll be moving their practice.
  • Clinicians will begin seeing patients in their new location as of July 6, 2021.

We’re intentionally designing the care experience at our Ballard, Capitol Hill, Northgate, Rainier Valley, and South Lake Union locations to serve members currently being seen at the Downtown Seattle facility.

Kaiser Permanente continually assesses its plans for the delivery of market-leading care, patient experience, safety, and affordability. We carefully consider decisions and their impact to our patients and employees, balanced with the importance of ensuring a consistent patient experience across Kaiser Permanente, and making smart operational moves that improve our affordability.
