Our medical group earns top ranking in Washington state

Apr. 11, 2023

Kaiser Permanente and Washington Permanente Medical Group have earned the top ranking for overall quality of care, according to the Washington Health Alliance 2023 Community Checkup. The ranking affirms Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and coverage.

The Washington Health Alliance 2023 Community Checkup report measures the quality and value of health care delivered across Washington and compares metrics related to performance nationally. For the 16th consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente Washington was recognized for the high-quality care it provides patients.

“We’re proud to top the Washington Health Alliance list for quality of care,” said Angela Dowling, regional president of Kaiser Permanente Washington. “Year after year, our medical group has been one of the top-ranked in the state, which means that when you come to Kaiser Permanente, you can trust that you’re in the best hands, with the highest quality of care. Kaiser Permanente members across the state can count on us to deliver on our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

In the commercial category, Kaiser Permanente Washington’s score indicates that it would outperform 82% of the other organizations and facilities.

Kaiser Permanente Washington also ranked first in the Quality Composite Score, which measures:

  • Prevention and screening (timeliness of recommended services such as well-child visits, adolescent well-care visits, and screenings for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers)
  • Care for chronic diseases (how conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, depression, and hypertension are managed)
  • Coordinated, cost-effective care (whether care avoids costly inpatient readmissions and unnecessary emergency department visits)
  • Appropriate, cost-effective care (a variety of measures including prescribing generic medications, avoiding inappropriate use of antibiotics, and avoiding unnecessary X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans for specific types of low-back pain)

“Kaiser Permanente Washington, a long-time member of the Alliance, has again shown its commitment to providing high-quality care to tens of thousands of patients across Washington,” said Drew Oliveira, MD, MHA, executive director of the Washington Health Alliance. “As we continue to hone in on value, it’s clear that Kaiser Permanente Washington not only offers high-quality care, but it does this at reasonable cost to patients. We look forward to working alongside Kaiser Permanente and all our health care providers to ensure everyone in our state receives high-quality care that is accessible and affordable.”
